Curanus GmbH currently operates a nationwide system for returning and recycling used sales packaging as a “self-disposal group” in the sense of the Packaging Ordinance, old version. Pursuant to § 6 section 2 of the Packaging Ordinance [VerpackV], new version (valid since 1 January 2009), manufacturers and distributors will also be released from their obligation to participate in a dual system in the future if they organise and certify industry-based self-disposal. However, the 5th amendment of the Packaging Ordinance narrows down the methods of “self-disposal” previously possible to a considerable extent. The ordinance itself and the related benchmarks passed by LAGA (Federal/State Waste Committee) contain a large number of prerequisites which must be taken into consideration by industry solutions practised in the future and which are naturally included in the Curanus industry solutions.
The fundamental orientation of the previous Curanus self-disposal solution, which was always strictly oriented on the stipulations in the ordinance and in the LAGA guidelines valid at any point in time, can be retained. Curanus GmbH & Co. KG will utilise its expertise and the already existing and attested self-disposal structures for the new prerequisites and will implement necessary changes in order to continue to offer manufacturers and distributors an alternative to the system participation obligation pursuant to § 6 section 1 of the German Packaging Ordinance [VerpackV].
One significant difference compared to previous practice, for example, is that the obligations stipulated in the Packaging Ordinance must no longer be fulfilled by means of joint mass flow verification for all affiliated manufacturers and distributors, but must rather be presented using separate, industry-specific mass flow documentation in future. Curanus prepares this documentation for its customers by clearly documenting and allocating the packaging put into circulation by manufacturers and distributors to a Curanus industry solution.
Curanus is a byword for reliable solutions. The company has remained and will continue to remain in constant contact with the responsible federal state authority during both the implementation of industry solutions as well as the presentation of the respective mass flow verifications in previous years. However, we don’t intend to rest on our Technical Control Board (TÜV) certificates. Even after our processes have been certified, they continue to be described and documented within existing internal control mechanisms. These standardised processes are maintained using EDP that has been specifically programmed for this purpose. In addition to the tests performed at Curanus itself, the processes and documentation are examined on a continual basis by employees and independent experts on-site at disposal partners that have been commissioned with services.
